    Default Far East language support?

one good feature of iPhone is Far East language support, can browse Asian sites without effort
    can G1 do it?
if so, it'll be very good, and attract many Asian customers

Being that it's google, and they have access to all the information in the world including supporting many different languages with their websites and tools -- I'm sure it'll either come with the languages pre-installed (maybe not since memory is a concern) or will allow you to download them.

I have tons of audio files from Hong Kong, that requires Trad Chinese support in order to display name correctly
and I can browse more sites (Hong Kong and Japan) if G1 has Far East lang support

    What about input methods?

Obviously I have no clue about programming so this might be a weird question, but is it possible to write a third party app that interacts with the actual keyboard (as opposed to a "fake" keyboard limited only to that app) and allows, for example, Japanese input in romaji?

Sorry if that didn't make any sense ;-(

We have discussed this before. It has support for both simplified & traditional Chinese and also Korean & Japanese. I tested some chinese websites on the browser and it can read them no problem. You can give me some Chinese sites you surf commonly and I can test them and send you a screen shot if you want.

So far there is no native input support yet but read the linked thread and I give a temporary workaround for this: by googling "online Chinese input" and typing your Chinese there and then using the copy and paste. I tested it and it works.

Search for the topic next time before posting.

This is the website I tested working:

For this one, it works if you choose the "previous" version or the older version. If you choose the newer one it doesn't work:

They will work on internationalization and localization later:

Remember China Mobile & also Japan's KDDI & NTT DoCoMo are part of the Open Handset Alliance and plan release Android phones. So you will definitely see more language support when that happens.

I think I remember seeing an Android app that is romaji input, but I forgot where. I also remember a soft-keyboard (aka virtual keyboard) app that has both English and Chinese, so it is definitely possible:

The input king link supports CangJei v.5 & v.3. Just remember to choose "previous" version instead of "current" when you get your phone or you can't copy the text with Android. You can try it out for now and see if it is the right one you use. I tested it in the emulator and it works.

As for native support, I'm thinking probably Pinyin will come first, because of China Mobile's upcoming Android phone.
