Eris Vs. Moto Droid

I picked up a Eris on the first day of release. Over all I really like it, so much more to do on it then my old Blackberry. I had originally planned to get a Droid but did not like the size for fitting in my pocket all day. {rice is not a determining factor. The Verizon sales reps literally knew nothing about either phone, they said they only received a 20 min sales pitch about them the night before. They said the only major difference was the size and physical keyboard or not.

After doing more research online the last few days I have learned that the droid is more powerful than the Eris and has a newer OS. Are these things that would make you switch even if you preferred the size and shape of the Eris? The keyboard does not matter to me, I hate the droid type keyboard and would much prefer one like the blackberry.

I just don't want to get stuck with the wrong phone until I can switch next year.

Honestly its all about the droid for me. I would pick that just because of specs out of the two, but it depends on what is important to you. Some people dont care about specs, and if its looks that matter to you, the eris is obviously better in that aspect.

Do you think there would be a noticeable difference in speed? The Eris seems at least as fast as my original iPhone did and much faster than my BB. People are talking like the Droid is great but coming from a Curve the Eris already seems light years ahead.

I got the Eris because the interface was so much better. I love the HTC Sense UI. But...I am going to take it back today and get the Droid. The droid is so much more versatile and powerful. I have my fingers crossed someone will homebrew a better UI to go on top of Android 2.0. Plus my other 2 beefs so far with the Eris are battery life and it gets sluggish at times. Oh well, it was great while it lasted. Droid here I come.

BTW...I went from a Curve to an Eris and it still blows the Curve away.

Battery life has me concerned as well, but from other forums I have read people are not thrilled with the battery in the Droid either. The one good thing about my curve was the battery would last a day and a half if I ever forgot to charge it. Yesterday my Eris battery was nearly dead after 8 hours of normal use. I guess I should turn off the wi-fi when not using it though.

wifi will zap your battery. I am coming from a storm2 and bb tour (both are still active) and I personally chose the droid for a few reasons. 1. the speed difference in performance, droid kills. 2. The fact that the droid has eclair on it in lieu of donut, I am an early adopter and like having newer os's(darn storm). 3. sizewise it still works for me for dropping into my pocket and going. 4. having touch and actual keyboard is nice feature to have. I am still getting used to the keyboard but after 2 days I am acclimating to it quite well.

The Droid has a CPU similar to the iPhone 3GS and it also has a graphics accelerator. It has much nicer screen than anything else on the market save the Touch HD/HD2 (or maybe the Nokia N900).

The 2.0 OS adds a lot of little features- most notably turn-by-turn driving in Google Maps. This should be coming to other phones via a HTC update- but will also depend on carrier support decisions.

I was happily using my G1 until I picked up the Droid on Friday; I never realized how slow the G1 was until I started using a newer device. I believe the G1 and the Hero/MyTouch/Eris all have the same CPU, but the later have larger ROM/RAM configurations (which adds quite a bit to performance). The Droid has more memory, a faster CPU and an additional graphics accelerator.

The NES emulator is VERY playable on the Droid- save for the %(@!# 'D-Pad' Motorolla decided to use; The same cannot be said for my old G1.

I use an iPhone 3GS at work and I would say the speed is about the same as the Droid- but the web browsing is a bit faster on the Verizon network.
