    Default Endless Reboots...

    Hey all,

Just joined the forums and trying to solve a problem I've now got plaguing my HTC Magic (Vodafone NZ, 1.6 Donut).

After installing some application today ( I suspect it was the SMS Popup app ) my HTC Magic has been stuck in an endless reboot cycle right after the phone shows up a "missed call" notification, I've tried booting into safe mode after removing the battery for a few minutes and it seems to do nothing other than say "safe mode" on the screen - I still see notifications popup and the phone continues to reboot.

I've even tried cold booting into safe mode without the SIM or SD cards in the phone, and also in Airplane mode but nothing seems to disable the notifications or the reboot.

Does anyone know if I can boot up WITHOUT notifications? Or somehow uninstall apps without really running the phone?

Hrm - booting in Safe Mode without the SIM in should have stopped any app responding to anything.

In this kind of situation, apps can start in two ways.

Either - at boot time, or when they receive what's called an "intent" which is when certain events happen, like receiving a new SMS message or whatever.

So, if you boot in Safe Mode without the SIM in... what happens? Does it reboot before you get a chance to do anything?

You can uninstall apps using ADB, but if you know nothing about this then it's a bit of a trawl to work it all out. There's more details on that here: http://www.androidkit.com/steps-to-i...roid-g1-device

However, a factory reset may also fix it (it'll remove all your apps and settings). There's loads of examples on the forums on how to do this, but in short you hold done Home while booting to start the recovery utility (you'll see a big exclamation mark), then do Alt+L to see a menu of options, then Alt+W to do a factory reset (wipe).
