Thumbs down EDGE performance terrible this past month!

My wife has had a G1 since they first shipped and I got a myTouch 3G when they first came out. EDGE has worked fine for us until about one month ago. Since then, the performance has been horrible. Has anyone else on T-Mobile experienced a recent, seriously slowdown on EDGE, or is it just us? TIA!

We live in the northern tip of Virginia. (I've now added my location into my profile. Thanks for the tip!)

    Thumbs up Much better today!

Well, my wife and I woke up this morning an decided to try out EDGE performance again. To our surprise, it was working very well, just as we had remembered! Of course, this was early Sunday morning when few others were accessing the system. Still, we were both able to simultaneously browse the web with very reasonable performance.

My web browser's UI, however, was still somewhat jerky, so I decided to remove all of the Widgets from my phone. I had 5 for toggling various things. Now the UI works as I remember it did when it was new. Perhaps the 500 MHz processor which is in the G1 and G2 is simply not sufficient to handle the extra load of widgets and too many other background processes. I'm OK with that. I'll just live without the convenience of having them if need be. I may add some of them back once Donut comes out, but I will do this one widget at a time and will carefully observe the phone's performance. Then I will decide whether I can add more or perhaps if I need to remove it again.

Back to the topic of EDGE performance: Now that we know our phones are again capable of operating at top performance, we will observe if the network performance degrades during the higher-traffic times. I am wondering if more and more people are using cellular internet for their main internet provider during these difficult economic times, thus loading the system more than in the past.

Default Sunday morning's good performance was an anomaly.

Unfortunately, EDGE has been pretty much unusable since Sunday morning. This clearly points to the tower being overloaded. I guess I will probably call T-Mobile to complain about this and vote for getting 3G here.
