According to this article, Google is moving forward full steam ahead with their next update, Donut. Nice to know Google isn't sitting back basking in their cupcake glory! The article predicts an August launch of Donuts... we'll see.
I'm wondering a couple of things.
First, anyone eagerly awaiting Donut, or do Donut's not hit the spot as much as Cupcakes did? There sure seemed to be a LOT of chatter with everyone eagerly awaiting Cupcake, but little interest or talk about Donuts.
Second, how does HTC's use of Sense UI affect users, when a new Android update is released? Will HTC have to wait for the Donut update, then spend months implementing the new features into their customized, cooked OS? Would they get it in advance of the official release, and therefore be able to release THEIR update to Sense UI at around the same time as the Android update?
How quickly has HTC updated their Windoz phones? Anyone know?
Just curious....
i want custard filling.
since when was donut leaked?? it says at the end of the article that it was..

well from what* remember from the HTC Hero launch events and videos, the CEO / Chief Innovative officer says that HTC Sense is build "around" cupcake 1.5 so therefore it would be pretty easy implement the new "features" of 2.0 (Donut) to their new UI
just my 2 cents :]]

Cheesecake is still better, sorry.
A lot of people were satisfied with the Cupcake release because 1.0 and 1.1 were sorely lacking. There have, however, been a spate of articles recently about Donut, which everyone is calling Android 2.0. Diane Hackborn has said that Donut may not be labelled v2.0. I linked to her specific message in another thread.
For what it's worth I'd think that Donut would be released after ADC2, which is supposedly in mid-August.
There was a recent discussion about this on Google's Android-Discuss mailing list. Basically anyone is able to "reinvent" the Home screen as it's just another Android application -- there are at least three different Home replacements that I know of: dxTop, OpenHome, and now HTC's.
As mentioned in the linked thread, nobody's sure if HTC will "donate" the code back to Android proper or if they'll keep it as added value for their own customers. Technically they're under no obligation to share the app with anyone apart from their customers, so one may have to buy an HTC-branded phone (versus a 'Google Experience' phone) to get it legitimately.
edit:
That may be so, but the 'C' release was already taken by Cupcake, so Donut it is, which would probably be followed by Eclair. It's good to have a naming scheme. Personally I'm waiting for the Parfait release![]()
I blame
