I just added a new line for me, to my dads family plan and wasn't planing on keeping the G1, but when I called them to cancel the data plan they told me I had to return the G1 if I wanted to cancel the data plan. Anyway to get through this?

If you are not planning on keeping the G1, then there should be no problem returning it then... NO? (I'm confused!)

Whats the purpose of having this phone without a data plan? For that get an Ipod Touch.

When you sign a contract you are signing a contract for the VOICE part. The data plan and or messaging plans are addons.I have been with tmobile for a few years and they have never extended a contract if i cancelled or added a dataplan or anything else that is not voice.
