The data plan should be able to be canceled later on. Not sure if you would have to extend your contract or not.
or can you cancell the data plan after a few months?
i would think that the data plan would not be REQUIRED for the WHOLE 2 YEARS... because there might be people that might have a hard time down the road paying for the data plans due to financial hardnship and would need to lower their cell plan... right?
wasn't there a time that tmobile only required you to keep the data plan for the wing or blackberry for at least 3 months and you would still get the sale price or something like that?
do you all know what i mean? can someone find this out?

I'm fairly certain that you can cancel the data plan -- I think the contract extension is based on the voice plan. Of all the stuff I've been trying to read about the G1 and t-mobile, I haven't read anything stating that the data plan is mandatory -- though with this phone; I think your experience will be less than exciting with no data plan.
Just curious, what use is this phone really without a data plan? Just trying to load a website would get you so much in fee's I can't see not having it.
i think a lot of people who live in big metropolitan areas where wifi is literally everywhere would be able to skate by w/out a data plan, seeing how the G1 auto connects to any available wifi network , i really like that feature, i wish my dash did that automatically.
Typically, you can add/remove additional services whenever you want, even online. Voice plans will make it so your contract ends a year from the change date, unless the original "contract closing date" is later.
It's hard telling what will happen with the data plan on the G1 since it's a new thing. There's always an agent that will remove it for you though...

Well I guess that all depends on where your located, now doesn't it? I can think of a multitude of places (dorm, apartment building, parents house, w/ roomates, san francisco, etc etc etc) where wi-fi is in high supply. Being able to check your email or the news from your phone is handy even if you can't afford the data plan. Not everyone can predict their financial future.
Our users are on top of things, just what I like to see.
