    Default Different Android Builds

I remember reading on a thread somewhere that there are essentially 3 editions of Android

    1) The full Google branded edition
    2) One where the phone Mfr has customised it, like the new UI on the Hero
    3) Some other edition, slimmed down maybe...

Anyway does anyone know the real differences between the 3, or am I dreaming about there being 3 editions?

Also do you loose any Google integration functionality by going with the non Google branded edition?

    Cheer in advance

I know of only 2 types:

    1) The standard HTC Dream.

    2) The ones that have been customised by a carrier - e.g. T-Mobile G1 is a Google branded HTC Dream.

The only difference, as far as I'm aware, between 1 and 2 is that with 2 you may get some carrier specific stuff, like MyFaves is a T-Mobile app. Also when you turn the phone on, the first few seconds of it powering up will show a carrier specific logo (e.g. "T-Mobile G1").

The Hero's "Sense UI" is made by HTC, and comes on all versions of the HTC Hero, be it an HTC Hero, or the rebranded T-Mobile G2 Touch.

I said "Touch" not "myTouch"... You're probably unaware of the Touch as it's only called this in the UK and Germany. Also, don't confuse the Hero ROM builds (a ROM) with the HTC Hero (a phone).

    Let's be clear:

    HTC Dream = T-Mobile G1 (lots of places) / Era G1 (Poland).

HTC Magic = T-Mobile myTouch 3G (US) / Rogers HTC Magic (Canada) / docomo HT-03A (Japan).

HTC Hero = T-Mobile G2 Touch (UK + Germany). This phone has the Sense UI.

Edit: Rearranged phones in order they were released.
