Default Cut and Paste From Contacts

Is there any way in Android to cut and paste between contacts?

I am thus far unable to select arbitrary information from a contact, even in edit mode, in order to paste them into another contact. It only works for phone numbers and email addresses, not arbitrary text like notes or an address.

Also, I would love to be able to duplicate a contact and then change only those fields in the copy that are different, like first and last name, say for quickly entering additional employees of the same company.

I don't even see how to to that in GMail, let alone Android.

You could copy and paste the other fields using by going to your Contacts in the Google Mail website. It doesn't seem to copy and paste for me either on the phone.

In order to make duplicates, the easiest way I think to do it is to export your contacts to a CSV file using the Google Mail website. Open the CSV file in Notepad and you should be able to quickly figure out the format. Delete all lines but one of your company contacts. Then copy and paste that line for every company contact you want to add. Finally, just change the name for each of those lines. The end result will be a CSV file in with all your company contacts. All you then have to do is import them back into the Google Mail website.

Long press on the field you want to copy, select select all, then go where you want and do the same thing.

What bgoody said. Tho you may have to "edit contact" to be able to copy text from a contact. I use this method and it definitely works.

Oh it does work - I stand corrected. The solution was as BadBoy said - to edit the contact first.

I still think it would be quicked using the CSV import method if you have lots of similar contacts though.
