Contact Profile Picture Bug

Do not attempt to change your contacts' profile picture. It might be desirable to have the G1 display a picture of the person when he/she calls, but it will screw up your G1.

I did exactly that, and now my phone is in a constant state of "syncing." The picture I uploaded was 100KB. My G1 is on a 1.5MB/sec connection. It's been syncing for the past hour now.

The problem with this is that it's constantly using up bandwidth and slowing the whole phone down.

So, be careful!

mine is just fine... weird maybe you got a bugged g1.?

Not too sure. My G1 loaded profile pictures set by the contacts just fine before. But as soon as I tried to change one, it blew up. In other words, if person A sets her pic, my phone will get it without a problem. But if I try to override person A's picture with another picture of my own... BOOOOOM... mushroom cloud... yeah, just like that.

Did you do this over the G1 itself, or through your Gmail account?

I've had no problem with loading picture either from my GMAIL acct. on my PC or on the phone itself. Only problem when someone calls all I see is the big green box and there name no picture while it is ringing. My first sync was long but after that using my WiFi if was a snap. I'm in a non 3G area.

I guess I just have to wait and see if it stops syncing. Maybe it will stop in a few hours... sigh

Take the battery out and hard-reset.

My phone was sticking on market downloads. Reset and it was fine.

Just to make sure, a "hard-reset" involves taking the battery out, waiting for a minute or so, and then reinserting the battery. Right? If that's the case, that did not fix it.

Mine is fine, but I don't like the fact that no picture shows up when you call someone you have set with a caller i.d. pic. What's the deal with a caller I.D. when there is none
