    Default Contact groups

Does anyone know if the G1 will have the ability to group contacts like how the BB does? I'd rather plug everyone into a certain group and then send a message to that group versus having to do it individually ya know....

since it gets it's contacts from Gmail, and gmail contacts lets you create groups, I assume so.

Yes, you can group your contacts in gmail now. I spent about an hour cleaning up my gmail contacts getting ready for the g1(is it 10/22 yet?).

But speaking of contacts i would like to see them add a birthdate field so I don't have to add them all into calendar.

I'm a big fan of Gmail, but I have to say, the Contacts part of Gmail absolutely blows. For one thing, there is no way to merge contacts, so you end up having 2, 3, 4, 5 contact entries for the same person, and the only way to merge them into one is manually...AND you have to delete one before entering another email address. Just clunkorrific.
Now I'm trying to import my contacts from my phone, using a comma delimited csv file that I exported from Moto phone tools, and Gmail has it's own custom fields for things like Mobile phone #, Home phone #, etc. It doesn't let you map field names to fields when importing...ugh. What a pain in the arse.

Whew. I thought I was the only geek doing this. I imported all my outlook contacts, I have a Windows Mobile device now, so I wanted to move all my numbers before I got the new phone.

Is there a way to get my contacts from my bb easier to the gmail account instead of manually?
