Default Computer doesn't see the G1

Newbie here... I just got my G1 2 days ago. I'm trying to add pics and music. I plug my phone into the USB cable, and from what I've read, I should see the phone in My Computer (Windows XP) as a Device with Removable Storage, right? It's not there. I've unplugged and replugged, rebooted the computer to no avail. I don't have a memory card reader, so I can add them that way. I selected Mount from the USB connection on the phone. Am I doing something wrong? Help!

Are you using a high speed USB port on your comp.? If not than that is the problem. I have a laptop w/o a high speed port and can't connect using it.

As the above poster said, if you have a usb1.0 hub's it will NOT work.

If you do have a usb2.0 connection on your PC, you may not be mounting it. When you plug in the phone, a notification icon should pop up on your G1, pull it down select it, it'll give you an option to 'mount' the phone. Do so. and then the automatic popup should come up on your pc.

you need to check your notification bar on your phone , press the usb in the notification bar , then when the option pops up hit mount ..... that should do the trick

I did mount it from the notification tab, so that's not the problem. It may be my USB connection? I don't know how to find out if it's 1.0 or 2.0, but I do know that when I plug in one of my devices (my iPod, I think), I get a pop-up message that it's not a high speed connection. Does that mean it's a 1.0 connection and won't work?

That going to the status bar at the top of the phone and choosing mount caught me again! I had to search here to find how to load my music a second time!
