Default Cannot obtain IP address from linksys router

    Hi All,

Have had the phone for less that 24 hours, everything is pretty great except i haven't been able to hop onto the wifi.

I've done quite a bit of searching, and haven't even been able to get an ip address from the router using No password, WEP and WPA2 Personal.

    Any ideas?

well, it all depends on what you activate on the router... did you set up the router yourself? is someone else in your household in charge of that?

reason being is because theres a few ways to secure your router... obviously using a password via WEP, WPA etc would be the most obvious choice... your next would be having an access/no access list via MAC addresses that are specificly logged in the router...

if its a linksys, the best thing to do is go to a computer that is connected to the router, type in 192.168.0.1 in your choice of browser... the default username is user on linksys routers, and the default password is admin...

i don't know off the top of my head what tab to go to in linksys routers as i use a d-link gaming router, but it should be somewhere in the administrator tab, wireless tab i'm guessing...

if you haven't already, unplug you router and cable modem/dsl modem for about 30 seconds to a minute, plug them both back in and try that first and see if you can connect... if not i'll have to get more info from you

    Thanks for the reply,

I have access to the router settings, etc, and we dont use any of the MAC or any other fancy things (i port forward for BitTorrents) but that about it.

    Ill try to reboot strategy.

    ......i hope this works.

sounds good... if that doesn't work, one of the easiest fixes you can probably do is assign the de-militarized zone (DMZ) to the internal IP address that is assigned to your device upon connection, which is typically static if you do not regularly power off your router (192.168.0.xxx where as xxx is the different range of devices connected to your router)... if you do not know, dmz opens all ports and most restrictions for that internal IP address for ease of use with programs and port access

I had that problem but I didn't bother screwing with it much. I just hard-coded in an IP address on the phone (outside of my DHCP range) and everything worked fine.

Hi, for me the problem was that there was a max number of IP adress to assign in the router setting (linksys). By defaut it was 4. When I changed it to 10, the phone connected immediatly. Too bad I had already tried a factory reset

    Hope this help
