Here is an idea, after looking through the android source for quite some time it would seem plausible to me for an app to detect when the phones keygaurd locks up. once this app senses this it could, I'm sure, send two subsequent menu key presses upon the push of any button. This would immediantly unlock the screnn just by pushing one button.
Yes this is a cheap fix, but short of recompiling the entire android source code and changing the specific code that enables the keyguard upon a timeout I don't know of another way. Although this way seems very logical to me, unless an app can't send raw key inputs to the system.
Furthermore, it would seem problematic that any key press would disable the lock screen, so any bump in your pocket and oops now who knows what your phone is doing. This could be remedied by having the app detect the end key press and disabling itself until the screen has been unlocked, by the user, at which time it will re-enable itself and resume its primary function.
Since I am not creating java apps for the g1 at this time, I am not the person that will need to develop this. But in reality it seems to be a simple task. An app that really doesn't need a gui apart from some kind of settings configuration.
