    Default behold 2 android 2.0?

    Hi -

I am new...and upgrading from verizon chocolate....I know...completely different animal than Behold 2

Just learned about android os...thinking this is good alternative to apple - don't want att anyway

Is it ok to assume that behold 2 will have latest android software? - and do you think that it will have similar video capture capablilties to iphone?

Sorry for being so ignorant....haven't looked at phones in awhile

Go take your ignorance elsewhere. (lies lies lies)

The cool thing about Android is it's not like Apple, meaning even if your behold comes with Android 1.5 it will still be able to go to 2.0 over having to buy a whole new phone. :]

I haven't looked into the Behold two, but I'd imagine it has a 3.0MP or higer camera so I'd say so, and there are applications that make the camera better anyway.

    Welcome to AC!
And my first sentence was a joke just so you know.

If your on Verizon why not get the Droid? Its camera is better than the iPhone's and it is hailed as the best Android phone to date.

    cmantelope,

I have the Behold 2 so get at me with any questions. It comes with Android 1.5, but will have the 2.0 upgrade next year.

As far as the camera goes, this thing is sweet!. Five mega pixels and great software allowing you lots of flexibility in settings, effects, etc. Image quality is awesome!

Here is a review I did in another thread:

Yes, it does come with Android 1.5, but Samsung will be offering 2.0 in 2010. However, I'm hoping to root this bad boy and upgrade to 1.6 or 2.0 sooner than later. I'm fine with waiting for a little development to take place, so I don't mind doing a short stint with 1.5. Everyone gripes about Samsung's UI, but it's not that bad.

The AMOLED screen is a huge plus for this phone! Put some high resolution photos on your three desktops and watch them come to life. The colors look amazing on this screen! I get satisfaction out of doing simple tasks like scrolling through my contacts, so watching videos is pure ecstasy. The contrast looks great and the colors glow on the screen. It'll be hard to switch back to a phone without an AMOLED screen once you own one.

Going back to the Aesthetics, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I like the way this phone looks and feels. When you hold it, you notice right away that it feels much more "grown up" than the MyTouch. The materials look better and the construction is quality. There is a nice balance between black and brown and the phone looks elegant. On the back cover, there is a patterned silhouette of the continents layered over a glossy black background. The front is not quite as good looking as the Galaxy's, but still looks nice. Once again, the screen steals the show.

The camera is also a big plus on this phone. Great software matched with a 5 mega pixel camera means quality images. You have the ability to control a lot of the camera's settings including white balance, ISO, resolution, etc. Additionally, you can add cool effects and create mosaics using different preset patterns. But it's the quality of images that will blow you away. This is one of the nicest cameras I've seen on a phone. But of course, if you want professional grade photos then buy a real camera.

Some reviewers say their phone lags. Mine has never lagged. Everything runs smoothly and feels no different than a Hero or G1. Both of my good friends own a Hero and G1 and I've spent a good amount of time playing with both. Yes, SenseUI on the Hero is better, but performance wise I've noticed no differences in speed or lag.

The "cube" is pointless, but not a problem. Don't push the cube button and you will never see it...

Samsung didn't do as bad as some say with their UI. Besides the cube, everything else works fine. Once again, I would prefer 1.6 or 2.0, but I'll deal with 1.5 while waiting for some development or an official release by Samsung.

The touchscreen works well. Milky smooth response and great vibration feedback when you type on the keyboard. Since I'm in love with the AMOLED screen, operating the touchscreen is that much more enjoyable

I've had this thing since the 18th and I've enjoyed every moment with it. If anyone has specific questions let me know. Yes, the critics have been harsh on this phone, but for me it works. Plus, since everyone will be buying the supposed "better" phones, less people will be rocking the Behold 2. That's a plus for me

I had the Behold II for one day and replaced it for a MyTouch. It's the worst Android phone I've ever used. The Touchwiz is not just the cube. They've replaced most of the basic phone apps with worse versions of their own. My guess is that the Behold II will never get the 2.0 upgrade because I do not believe that Samsung cares about customers who have already given them money. Plus they just announced their own OS platform.

The Behold II is kinda weird at first because of the integration between the Touchwiz and Android but it now has been rooted so a lot of the programs that are on the phone can be deleted or replaced with ones from the Market. Give it a chance the camera is great, 5 megapixel.

I have to agree - I really like the Behold II. I have been a die-hard WinMo user with fixed qwerty keyboard. This is my first leap into the Android and Touchscreen arena, and I love it! The camera takes excellent pics, the UI is simple and intuitive (I have experienced no lags). I don't have 3g in this area, but all apps function well on EDGE. The screen is gorgeous. Photos and videos are brilliant. Overall this is a great phone that's getting a bum rap from the critics. Clearly they are not living with it very long before they pass judgement. The only thing I don't like is the vertical qwerty keyboard - easy to hit wrong letters. Horizontal works fine, but would like better option for 1-handed operation. I use this phone primarily for business, and the sync to Exchange is flawless. I use an app from the Market called Touchdown, which is even better than the provided interface. Would love to have sync to Outlook Notes which I rely pretty heavily on while traveling (hotel, airline, rental car frequent traveler numbers, etc). I'm quite satisfied with the Behold II.

To each their own...that's why I love life! At least none of us bought an iPhone, right? I can agree to disagree on Android phones all day. Personally, I like the 1.6 firmware on the MyTouch and G1 way better than Samsung's UI, but I can't stand the aesthetics. The G1 feels rickety and the MyTouch feels like a toy...for girls. So if my GF rocks one I'm totally cool with it, but guys? It's like buying a scooter when you know that a motorcycle exists. Just playing, so no one take offense. Once again, we all made the right choice to not go with Apple so let's all get a long. But I do love my Behold 2.

I have owned the Behold II since Nov. 18th. I would have to say that I am both happy and unhappy about this phone. It comes so close to being the perfect Android phone. Aside from the fact they decided to use the qualcom proccessor, the hardware is sweet. The camera ROCKS. And the screen...oh man the screen is so clear and vibrant! I love the weight and feel (something that HTC just can't seem to get right). I came from using the G1 for over a year. I had it hacked and CyanogenMod installed on it.
This is where I get to the part that I hate about this phone. Although the imagery is better (theme colors and all) with the samsung GUI, I do HATE everything else about the GUI. Why they spent $$ to degrade an otherwise near perfect device I might never know. I want my sleek, fast, easy, functioning Android 2.0 GUI back.
I do hope that Samsung realizes that they need to open this phone up to its users and creates a ROM that is just the normal Android apps. If they did this, this phone would be without a doubt the best Android phone on the market.
