Great question, I would love to know the answer as well, but the good thing about this phone from what I have heard is that you can replace the battery so you can always keep a spare if your a heavy user, unlike the other phone.
Hey all,
First time poster long time reader.
I'm loving the Android Communty and truly do believe that the G1 is the next stage in mobile communications. Shame that I can't do anything about it until July 09! (Tied into contract).
My one and only concern about the G1 is battery life!!! I haven't seen this discussed anywhere as....., well no one really has been able to spend enough quality time with a G1 to find out what it can do! But I'm hoping that it will really be able to stand up to all the 3G usage a user can throw at it in a given day.
I guess what I don't want from my G1 expierence is [ahemmm] the Apple Iphone 3g issue of the battery lasting 7-9hrs with limited usage as this would be the only deal breaker for me.
I can wait for LG/Samsung/Motorola to release what they want in 2009 BUT..... I'm reeeaaallly liking the G1!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on the battery life?

3g is a battery drainer... my 1st gen iphone could go 28 hours playing straight music, i know, i tried... the few days i used a 3g iphone i returned it and decided to wait on the G1...
i don't think you can avoid short battery life with a 3g intensive phone such as the G1, and since theres no new battery technology being utilized with the G1, i would expect to get a full day's use out of it, thats about it with a good amount of 3g useage
Buy the rumor, Sell the news.
according to CNET, here are the specs for talk time on the G1:
Power
Battery installed ( max ) 1
Talk time Up to 406 min
Power supply device Power adapter
Power device type Power adapter
Ralph - I ated the purple berries! (moans)
Bart - How do they taste, Ralph? Good?
Ralph - They taste like...BURNING!
The only suggestion I would have is to turn off 3G ( I think I should the ability to do so in some video that showed settings) especially if you're not in an area that has it yet. But I also read somewhere that standby time on 3G is longer.
Maybe this will help?

battery technology is way behind... ... it's going to keep thecell phone technology down... we need much better batteries for all type ofcell phones...
there are so many things you coulddo on the android... but I feel ... that battery life will hamper (sp?) the use of it..
