ANY way to change system sounds w/o root?

Id like to change the audible selection sound, camera sound, etc.
But I dont want to take on the task of rooting just to do this!

rooting is so simple.
idk if you can change tht stuff though.

if you know how to use ddms, you could try this. pull the camera apk to your pc and extract the contents. replace the .ogg sound files in it with something of a similar size and keep the name the same. repack everything to camera.apk and push it back to the phone. i'm not sure if it will work. but you actually just gave me something to try,lol. thanks.

didn't work. not sure why. i replaced the camera sounds ,pushed the camera apk back to my phone,but it made the same default noise. so there's more to it for certain sound files.

Let us know how this works out for you. I'd love to be able to do this in conjunction with skinning an interface similar to e.g. Star Trek TNG PADDs. Change system sounds, menu look, icons, and system events (e.g. a special sound like the opening of hailing frequencies when starting a phone call) would truly be a reason to have root that I could brag about!

i'm gonna mess with it more tomorrow. there must be sounds hidden in the framework. because i pulled the camera apk back to my pc,and the sound i replaced was there. odd. i know how to change the startup sound. but certain other things need more looking into.

yeah, i really just want to change the selection sound. found this
explaining how to do with root. basically just replacing the file. just dont
have write access in there w/o root.

im usually the first one to hack a piece but this is my work phone and i dont want to have to bother with any problems that may arise by doing it.

I have DROID 2.0 and wanted to change the startup sound. Can you point me in the right direction for modding that?
