Default Android is doomed because of this news.. and NO ONE HERE IS TALKING ABOUT IT ..

Yesterdya I posted the news about the Sprint CEO saying .. "Android is not ready yet for Sprint to put its name on it"

You guys don't realize what this means for you?...

That means for the time being Android phones is a Tmobile thing .. it's like Iphone with a t and t .. BUT THAT'S NO THE ROUTE that google wants to take...

    Remember ..
    Verizon hates Google's guts
AT & T is married to Apple .. they will wait until Android becomes more popular..

The 2 smallest cell phone companies in the US were embracing Android.. but that's not the case with this recent Announcement...

I'm thinking Sprint wants to wait for 4g before they jump on Android.. espeically since Google funded thier 4g network..

but IT WILL BE TOO LATE ... a lot of companies are looking to see how Android will take off .. and it won't take off if it's only tied to the smallest cell phone company in the US ... Many ppl are upgrading to G1 .. not switching from another carrier...

I 'm a sprint custmer... and I've been waiting for an announcement from Sprint since forever... and this is bad news...

here's the orginal thread people... THIS IS NOT LOOKING GOOD ..

There are already a few companies that are gonna be making unlocked phones with android. at least 2 or 3 which were posted on the News page on AC.

doesnt samsung have a 300 member team on the android OS?

Its not something to worry about, Google is smart, even if some dont like them, they still will do the damn thing!!

Dude calm down, the reason android is not ready for Sprint yet is because they have to port the code over to a CDMA platform. Qualcomm and Sprint are both working on this as we speak under the OHA partnership umbrella.

Either way, GSM is the dominant technlogy and I doubt that a single, globally irrelevant CDMA carrier would make or break Android.

New products on the market definitely require some time to gain the specific place and start moving in different directions. I think that CEOs should spare everyone of their announcement for now if they are going to have Android OS on their devices or not. Why? They do give the answer by saying - we are waiting so Android is more popular.
What popularity they have in mind, there was no explanation. However, we are in the third day of the OS seeing light of the day - and CEOs already know what will be popular... I don't know - to me this sounds like the message that was said way to early.

Let's see what happens in 2009.

    PS. I don like Sprint

America is NOT the centre of the universe. Just because 1 American company does not want to use Android, does not mean it is doomed.

I dunno about android being dead. I feel like most people got the iPhone cause of all the hype that was created by apple. They didn't know the pros and cons of the operating system. Also it seems like people buy a phone because of the phones looks and not the software that is running on it. At least the majority of the people. Then there is the people that look at the potential of the phone in the long run.
cant put this damn phone down...

I'm in the same boat. I've been waiting (im)patiently for an announcement from Sprint. This sucks.

...and I also had the same 4G theory. Their first Android phone would be a great time for hype Wimax.

Currently, Sprint's only flag ship phone is the Samsung Instinct. I don't think WiMAX plays a big factor in whether Sprint is going to market with Android...This reminds me of when Verizon BIG BOSS said --- we'd never go to market with the iPhone --- and now look who's got egg on their face and scrambling to get an iPhone like success that at&t is having...(a la the LG Dare and BlackBerry Thunder). I think there might be some hard feelings that Google decided to launch Android on T-Mobile (possibly because of Andy Rubin's relationship with T-Mobile over the Sidekick line). Of course Dan Hesse will "sort" of bad mouth Android to keep their existing customers from defecting over to T-Mobile for the G1 very much like when their customers left Sprint for the iPhone/iPhone 3G.
    I agree....

Dan's comment has the opposite effect on me. When he bad mouths Android it makes me think I'll have to wait till end of next year. For that, I jump on to Tmobile and enjoy it as of now.

    Ha

T-mobile may be the fourth largest carrier in the United States, but internationally it the world's sixth largest mobile phone service provider by subscribers and the third largest multinational.

Worldwide AT&T is a distant eleventh worldwide and Verizon is an even bigger fifteenth behind.

So If T-Mobile eventually gets Andriod phones to all its users that want it, how is Android doomed?

There are also 5 other international carriers that are plenty bigger than T-Mobile so they are options that have not closed their doors to Andriod.

So why is it that Android is doomed?
