whats so amazing about that? theres already like a built in emulator for developers, its the same thing, just without the programming part.
It's possible!
As demonstrated at the UDS, an Android execution environment is in the works that would allow Android applications to run directly on Ubuntu and other traditional Linux distros. I suppose this environment would be a Dalvik port with the associated bindings. This might make Android more attractive to developers...

an emulator is for testing and debugging the device. the apps don't technically run... this would allow you for example to run the weather widget on your desktop if i'm not mistaken...
which would indeed make it more appealling to developers because not only would there users be phone users, but potentially nix users on there computers...
soo more developers, potentially larger audience equals... well we'll see.
this would make my xp\ubuntu dual boot all that much more exciting. it would be like triplebooting with android,in a way.

This is awesome, I'll be able to use the schwartz unleashed and swing my laptop around like a light sabre !
Joking aside this could be great for both communities. Widgets and games would be the most obvious influences, but who knows as more Linux people get interested in Android they could write some really cool things for their pc's that we get to use on our phones as well.
This would also mean we'd have another way of browsing the market from our computers. I also find it interesting that canonical is getting into this around the same time that they're working on their own app store.
I'm excited about this, especially considering Android will be on netbooks at some point, so whatever cool apps come out there I'll have access to without straining my eyes on a 10 inch monitor.
Yeah, Android is definitely destined for some interesting devices. I have a feeling that this will come hand in hand with Android's x86 port, with Ubuntu providing an API layer similar to Wine.
And yeah, we've an emulator now but this won't be an emulator![]()
