A few Q's I'd love answered now that some of you have played with the G1

Hey all,

These are nagging questions on my mind, and I know we'd all love to hear the answers. Anyone who played with the phone today, or has had one and can finally speak out of NDA, or have gotten good info from another source...chime in!

1. The screen: There was a video (I believe on engadget) that said it felt like a hard screen. Is it glass? Does it register touches at the slightest HINT of a touch like an iphone? Glass doesn't scratch near as easily...(please be glass?)

2. Battery: I think I've seen a pic of the phone with the back off. Was that a replaceable batt I saw? To be honest, I've never carried a "spare" phone battery, but it's good to know the eventual replacement won't require cracking the case.

3. Can you elaborate on the feel of the plastic? I noticed on the pics that leaked Mon. night that the phone looked matte finish. I was hoping I was right, and it was confirmed today that the phone is NOT a piano finish, perfectly glossy like the iphone and practically EVERY other consumer device out these days. Piano black devices (like this laptop I'm typing on) look positively GROSS when they get smudgy (in other words, when you get within 100 feet of them). So, what's the finish like on the G1? Does it really have an almost metallic glint to it? Does it feel rubberized, smooth, nubby... Go into detail.

4. Have we seen camera quality yet? Anyone gotten any good pics in decent light? Thing is, 3 Megpixels is enough to get passable prints off of. I'm not saying I expect to throw out the Digital Rebel when I get the G1, but it'd be nice to know if the camera is even worth EVER USING for any reason. --Because on most phones, the answer is "nawsir".

5. Did it have sound? Do any of the apps click, beep, boop, whirr, or jingle? How's the sound? Where's the speaker? I find it frustrating where the iphone's speaker is when I'm playing games. The way I hold the phone, I cover it up, and the sound goes COMPLETELY away.

6. Seriously, this has been brought up elsewhere, but...can it make calls? Did anyone try one? How was call quality?

As I think of more questions, I'll just add them to the original list. For now, I think a few answers to some of these would do us all some good!

Well, all I can tell you from seeing that picture with the back-cover off - battery will be replaceable by end user (us) ...

2. Battery: See video (forget which one) - according to Google Erick Tseng (lead Android Developer) with heavy usage, you "should" get a full day. It's 1100 mAh in size.
3. Can you elaborate on the feel of the plastic? Feels great and yes it oozes a feel of well built/quality.
4. Have we seen camera quality yet? Sorry this was on my list but didn't get to it. It's got a mechanical zoom - so should be the same quality level as any high end nokia phones.
5. Did it have sound? There are sounds. I have a video showing all the sound options...uploading soon.
6. Seriously, this has been brought up elsewhere, but...can it make calls? Did anyone try one? How was call quality? Yes they all make calls. They all had data plans.

Android Community members are in for a nice treat with really high end video demos coming soon.

AWESOME. You know, I had you in mind with most of the questions, but I haven't seen you on all day. Busy, no doubt.

CAN'T WAIT for the detailed videos!

I mean it. I can't wait. So STEP ON IT!
