Default $300 might be a GLITCH

just wanna let everyone kno that on my mytmobile account the price tag on the g1 said 299 but since another line on my family plan said 179, i decided to call and ask about this. they said that there is some type of error: their systems thought i was only eligible for a "partial" upgrade (aka $300 g1) when i was actually eligible for the full discount. what i have to do now, they said, is call them after the release and order the phone from them then @ 179. in doing this i will also have the choice to order a white g1!!!
(im not saying all $300 price tags are glitches, just that you should watch out)

    EDIT:
ok i called again and figured out why it wasnt giving me the $179. there had been an upgrade on my line recently, but the phone was returned and their systems didnt know that the phone was returned. the rep said he will fix this within 72 hours and call me back

Good clarification - I always call before I upgrade the phone and definitely grab a name of the person I was talking to. It helps and T-Mobile Customer Service can do a lots of things for good loyal customers

And you're sure that it wasn't because the other line was opened/upgraded at a different date? The different lines on the account are treated differently.

    Example:
A friend opened their account June 2000 with a 2 year contract. In November 2000 he added his girlfriend with a 2 year contract. If the girlfriend signs into her account on June 2002, it's not going to give her the full discount. If HE signs in on June 2002, he can get the full discount.

At least, that's been my experiences.

What you could do is simply order for the line that does have the full discount, but it seems like you will be waiting for the white anyway.

That is unless of course you are already getting it at the cheapest rate.

i asked this in another thread:

does anyone know if i can upgrade on another line in my family plan and use the phone on my sim card? i dont wanna spend 300 to upgrade but with my brothers number its 179. Also, the 2 year contract is only the voice services right? Meaning I could cancel the data plan when i receive the phone and add a data plan to my line, thanks.

    Yes, you could do that.

As long as it's a T-Mobile SIM, anyone should be able to use it.

^ Yup, nice thing about T-Mobile is you can simply swap SIMs in the phones and your good to go.

ok i see wat your saying. the thing is i cant offer that good of an explanation cuz im not 100% sure about the dates and all that stuff. but out of the 4 lines in the plan, only one had the $180 price and im sure that atleast one of the ones that were showing $300 were out of contract. plus the representative said that it was some sort of error in the system. and i can't order one off of the other line cuz that person already ordered one!!!

Only problem with that--and I'm wondering here--is that data plans are per line, which is tied to the line, or more technically, the sim card, correct? I just thought about this today after ordering mine on my wife's line with the idea of swapping sim cards out. Problem is, when I swap out, I think I'll have calling ability just fine, but no data plan! Can anyone tell me where I'm wrong?

Good news for me is, we moveds here over 2 years ago, and still haven't changed our phone #s to local ones. We can just both change our phone #s when I get the phone, do the swap, and it won't matter much...

It has a lot more to do with how long ago you bought a phone from them at a discounted rate, at least that's what my rep told me.
