I think you mean "autumn." This word for the fall season, sometimes misspelled as autum or autmn, comes from the Latin autumnus. It is one of the 100 most popular names for girls.

A question about the rules. Image processing of some type is practically unavoidable. How much is allowed? I suggest that entries be restricted to single images (no collages or layers) that have only minor processing such as small adjustments of color, contrast, exposure and sharpness, plus a little cropping and rotation as needed. That will best show off the G1's capabilities. Otherwise, the hunt becomes a Photoshop skills contest. Of course, if you want "anything goes," that's OK, too, so long as we know.

@Tyrell - Ok Mr. smarty pants.. I never claimed to be a good speller. As far as the other bit goes. I hadn't even considered colleges or layers since i mentioned "one photo only" per subject. I had thought it went without saying that that means only one image, but ill edit the rules to reflect that more clearly. I also really hadn't considered people photoshopping the pictures I don't think i ever photoshopped an image from a cell phone. So lets do this: i don't want to put people who don't know how to use photoshop at a disadvantage. So lets say you are only allowed to rotate as necessary and crop only if needed after rotation. Other than that lets say no photoshop corrections. So that the competition will be even across the board. I think doing it this way will make it more challenging too. So if you want good light your going to have to come up with a way to do it when the picture is taken. (Flashlight, another camera's flash.. ect...)

I'll reflect the rules for that now.

Just remember, this is suppose to be something that anyone can participate in and its suppose to be silly and fun, not an all out photography competition.

yah!! Great submission, you get some good pics outta that G1... wow, mine are coming out sorta smudgy like when your lens fogs (no its not dirty)..

So does the g1 even have EXIF data? i hadnt looked yet. Figured it woulda shown as "camera unknown".

Thanks. I'm sure others can do better. Like most miniature cameras it seems to work best in direct sun with moderate contrast and is very sensitive to movement. The delay in shooting has fouled me up several times.

The Exif data have all kinds of interesting info. The camera is listed properly as HTC T-Mobile G1.

Pop quiz: who is HTC? Answer: High Tech Computer Corporation, Taiwan, founded in 1997. It has over 4000 employees, a quarter in R&D. Their slogan is "Smart Mobility" and they are a leading manufacturer of Windows Mobile phones.

Image files are JPEG at 1:19 compression and around 600 KB. Most "good" cameras are less than 1:10 compression. Pixel dimensions are 2048 x 1536 (600 x 450 after upload to this website).

Location and time are given, so that if the GPS receiver is turned on you can get quite accurate lat-lon and altitude. I like that.

Give 'em time. For those of us who even have the phone, we're still deep into getting to know it, checking the market every day, and trying to answer all our questions. Coming from a Palm Treo, I feel like I stepped trough a door into a different world.

I can try and do the first 2 parts of the theme...but the 3rd one is going to be a bit tougher for me since I don't have another cell phone (yes i'm an adult with their very first cell phone ever being the G1....and i still haven't gotten my first cell phone bill!). I'll probably have to borrow someone elses. Preferably an iPhone so i can get some rope and lynch it from a colour changing tree...(and yes someone can use that idea since i dont' have any iPhone weilding freinds) I'll think of something else that's creative.

What ideas for the next scavenger hunt? Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa or other Holiday groups i'm missing here. Textures (like rocks/wood/waterdrops). A favorite for most....food or maybe food ingredients?

1. What just doesn't fit in with the rest?
2. Who's that in my camera fanny pack?!
3. Don't you hate walking out in Autumn and your boots always get leaves and bean pods stuck to it...and dropping your cell phone in the leaves?[Uh...I've never owned a cell phone before and my roommate wasn't home at the time to use his. I had to make due with my house phone (am i disqualified?).]

The G-1's Pictures app shows only the image and file sizes. The Exif data are shown by most image editors on your desktop computer, even something as basic as Preview on the Mac. You can also see the data by uploading the photo to a website such as Picasa.

BTW, my above comments about movement have been mostly fixed by SnapPhoto, a must-have G1 app.
