Kies won't install

My new problem is that Kies won't install on my PC, after the language choice, the program starts installation and then gives error message Installation Aborted with no other explanation.
Running currently on an Acer netbook windows XP, (My main PC is somewhere between the east and west coasts, the movers (Atlas) are over a week late and now dom't expect to deliver until next week)
Have tried soft boot, hard boot, turning off anti-virus software, same result, installation stops, no reason given, Anyon else have similar problems? Any known solutions?

Kies really sucks in so many ways. It used to work fine for me but now when I connect the phone the MTP Application on the phone (that's like the phone's counterpart to Kies) just continuously starts/quits/starts/quits every second.

Anyway, all I can suggest is downloading it again from Samsung's site and try again.

You don't really need it though. You can copy files to/from the phone using Mass Storage mode (Home -> Menu -> Settings -> About phones -> USB settings -> Mass storage). It'll then work just like any other USB flash drive.

Firmware updates come over the air (as far as I know). So you don't need it for that either. You can still tether both wirelessly and via USB without Kies.

Why would you want to use Kies in the first place?
As extorian points out, you can manage files without it, though not firmware upgrades. There you need Odin.

If you use Google Calender, Gmail and Contacts, they are synced lightning-fast on your phone and Google keeps backups of your Android market purchases also.
I got seriously frustrated with Kies. Also, it does not exist for Mac os X.

Dump Kies.

The only need for it is to update firmwares officially without voiding your warranty. Sure, you can use Odin or just installing an update.zip from the SD card like any other Android phone, but those (technically) void your warranty.
