YES!!!!! If you order a Dell Streak on the Dell Website and look at the Specs it tell OS 1.6 2.2 before years end...
That is offical enough, in other words right from the horses mouth.....
Hopefully I read by ThanksGiving.....very greatfut indeed.

Are you guys 'over there' still on 1.6? The UK (O2) users got 2.1update-1 as the current OTA. We're waiting for 2.2 Froyo also. I'm just surprised that USA may not have had the same OTA that we did.

BTW - there have been performance and stability issues reported with 2.1update-1. I found that my Streak was a bit flaky in the screen department. But a thread on Modaco suggested a way to resolve this on rooted Streaks.

Basically, it seems that Dell have [in 2.1] disabled the GPU hardware acceleration and all that is needed to turn it back on is a setting in build.prop file in the /system directory. But you need to have rooted your device to be able to replace the file.

In build.prop just locate and change debug.sf.hw=0 to 1 and reboot. From then on my Streak has been slick, fast and smooth. No screen hiccups, lag, staggering or crashes. Just smooooooooooothness to rival anything else.

Yep...1.6, but to tell u the truth it's still kicks ass....We here in the State hopefull as stated in the Dell website will be getting 2.2 before years end.
