may b there is a problem with your sim...your sim may b old
I just created an account to reply to this. The EXACT same problem as the OP is happening to me, I'm now on my third sim card. Problem still there.
I don't want to send the phone off to HTC as all I've heard they do is a reflash, and SIM reader obviously isn't broken, as it can still recognize the sim card.
Please does anyone have a solution to this?

I am having the same problem with my pantech breakout 4g it wont recognize the sim card when it is already in the phone. I rebooted several times, reset the phone to factory default, and put it to airplane mode with no luck. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
If you already tried firmware calibration but the problems till exists. try hardware repair:
1. Try to use another known good sim card.
2. Visually check the SIM card holder for possible damaged, clean it, re-solder and fix if the pins were misaligned. Replace the whole SIM card PCB board assembly if necessary.
3. Check/clean the SIM card PCB assembly pin connector.

Samsung i997 Infuse used for 5 months with no issues and yesterday, had the phone nearby one of those underground antennas that opens a gate when it senses a vehicle. Eventually shimmed the internal SD card and phone works again. This SIM card might require replacement. Needless to say, I immediately backed-up both the internal and external SIM cards to my desktop HDD.
