HTC Desire shuts down randomly

It really is interesting to read all the solutions. I too thought of extra pressure on the battery to make a good a connection, so I put a couple of pieces of masking tape on the inside of the cover and that fixed it for a couple of weeks. I even uninstalled all the apps that I had put on since I got it and that was good for a few weeks. The problem seems totally random like most electrical problems. It doesn't like using Google Maps on a 3G connection (stupid and unacceptable). It cuts out when I am talking whilst charging! I am in Australia and against my better judgement, I am with Optus. I suspect the problem is to do with overheating which could be caused by the processor working too hard because the 3G connection isn't strong enough. Just a moment ago it conked out during charging. I had it sitting on top of the PC tower which is reasonably warm. I wonder if that combined with the heat that phone generates while charging caused the latest shut-down? I guess I will have to find a mini ice vest because there is no way I am going to switch to an iPhone.

I think I have found the culprit. Google Maps! Everry time I start it and the GPS using a 3G connection, it kills the phone which is pretty dammed stupid considering the purpose of Google Maps.

i think it is due to the virus,any bad app or can be the problem of your OS ...

Ok, i think ive figured out the issue. My Htc mytouch 4g started this shut off crap a month ago. Ive narrowed it down to pressure or movement on the back cover. I noticed there is a small gold contact under the back cover just below the battery. This small gold square is designed to contact the back cover of the phone like a ground or somthing since the back cover has a corrosponding silver or bare square to make contact with. I put clear office tape over the silver bare spot on the cover and now prevent these spots from connecting. I did this a week and a half ago and my phone hasnt shut down since. Its obvious somthing is wrong because these phones didnt always do this. But this fixed it for me, for now.

I registered to post since i came here looking for answers long ago and found no solutions. I thought this might help others struggling with this as it was driving me nuts.
