Default HTC Dream to Australia (+cupcake info)

Yes it is now official HTC are releasing the Dream in Australia- obviously T-mob own the G1 name as it is released thru Optus as the Dream.

a good writeup by a guy on an aussie forum at http://apcmag.com/optus-to-sell-htc-...up-to-182-.htm

"Nor does the Dream include Google’s ‘Cupcake’ update to the open-source OS. This means it still lacks an on-screen QWERTY keyboard (similar to those of the iPhone and BlackBerry Storm) and the turbo-charged WebKit-based browser with find and copy/paste features; nor does it support A2DP or ‘Bluetooth Stereo’.

A HTC spokesman said that the Cupcake update would make its way onto the Dream as an over-the-air update pushed out within the next few weeks, in the same timeframe as it was delivered to T-Mobile G1 users in the US."

a nice hint on cupcake and where it is at....

I wanna believe that this is more than just a tiny taste from google. Part of me thinks that this update is as much about "fixing bugs" as it is building some behind the scenes framework for cupcake.

To me this make sense, upgrade some code now and get everything in place, such as the manually check for updates, to reduce the size of the next install...

I would love to belive that this is true...and part of me thinks we could see it soon.
Mobile World Congress starts on Feb 16th-19th, Google, T-mobile, HTC are all scheduled th be there...could be a coincidence, could not be. Just like the fact that RC33 will be rolled out between Feb 5th and 15th...so everyone should have it by the time MWC rolls around. Again...likely? No. Could it happen? Yes.

That would also put it at "a few weeks"

hadn't actually thought about it like that- if HTC are gonna introduce the next android phone (the white one without keyboard) and samsung are gonna introduce theirs as well (no keyboard) maybe HTC/google/Tmob will release cupcake then- otherwise how can these companies show their phones at their full potential....

Hate to be a downer but....

Just because Google and HTC have completed it, doesn't mean TMO has to release it right away.
