There is already a third party video application downloadable in the App Market on the demo phones called "Video Player v0.1, by Jeff Hamilton". See 1:20 in this video review for Video Player v0.1 in action. This review used to be on Engadget but they took down for some reason so it took me a while to find it. http://www.viddler.com/explore/engadget/videos/57/ Didn't we have a thread on this already? http://androidcommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=950 Quote:

once TCPMP (windows mobile video player with almost every codec out there) gets ported over to android, i would suggest that... it isn't the most graphically pleasing, quite plain actually, but functionally and feature wise its the best... and yet again along with my motif, its an open source project which means you get the best support (community based) and fastest updates
now granted the TCPMP project has been closed, being moved to a commercial project called coreplayer and an open source beta project called betaplayer, they still shine in my eyes

Do you happen to know what format this app (Video Player v0.1) uses, mpg4, avi, etc.

I second TCPMP or VLC if they get ported over. The interface has never been the best but they can play anything you throw at them and don't eat up resources.

The person specifically mentioned mpeg4 in the video, but I know Android has (or had? see below) 3gpp, h.264 and h.263 decoding built in, so I expect those to work too, but I'm not entirely sure because some things have been removed in the update from v0.9 to v1.0.
