My phone shuts down and powers up in a middle of a phone call?

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this site, and I am looking for your help.

I have an HTC Legend (Android 2.1 - waiting for 2.2 update...soon)....

It's happened to me twice in the last couple of days - I'm in a middle of a phone call and all of a sudden the power shuts down and the phone restarts.

Unfortunately I cannot return my phone. The phone is new, the battery is new and so is the memory.

Has anyone else had this issue? Can you help me?

Sounds defective, but I'd try a factory reset. If it's not physically damaged you can try a manufacturers return.

Thank you constellanation. I did a factory reset on the weekend. I dropped my phone about 4 days after I had it...got a little scratch on the case...they won't take it back (exchange it). I guess my only hope is to wait for the update from 2.1 to 2.2?

Well if that's software related then you could wait for 2.2 or reflash 2.1 official rom if you find it somewhere. But that could be hardware related in which case the 2.2 update won't help..
I'm guessing. No insurance on it?

I bought the HTC Legend back in June. Sometimes, not just in the middle of a call it would shut off and restart. I bought it from Bell and it was less than 30 days so I took it back. I exchanged the phone for a brand new one. While in the store setting up the new phone, only about 10 minutes old, it shut off and reset. The girl at Bell told me to call HTC for a possible software upgrade. I got home and called HTC, needless to say they were useless. Now that my phone is over 30 days old I'm stuck with it and now it does it more regularly. Sometimes it will shut down during a call 5 or 6 times in a 15 minute period.

While in a call, usually all goes dead and you can feel it vibrate. There is a white screen with HTC in green letters. Most of the time it hangs here and the battery has to be removed in order to power on the phone.

So far that is my only issue with the phone, but it's a huge issue if you can't even make a phone call on a phone.

I have done many factory resets but the problem still continues.

Any other ideas?

My phone has been shutting off just after I dial a number. I've had it for less than a week so at first I thought it was me just getting used to the phone. But it's happened a couple times already. I got mine from Virgin Canada.

I'd return it...or exchange for another.

Frankly, sounds incredible to me because I haven't got this kind of problem before. No matter what brands I have used, Nokis, Moto Droid, HTC Hero.
