Hboot freezes

Hey guys,

2 weeks ago I bought a HTC legend. Yesterday I thought a few of mine buttons broke down, the home button and the volume buttons. But when I tapped them for 3 times, the phone rebooted into Hboot.
Now that's where it freezes, volume buttons doesn't work, (occasionally they do, but I still can't reach 'clear storage' for a factory reset)
Somehow I managed to get into safe mode, but I don't know how, just desperately tapping buttons.
Of course I still have warrenty, so my main question is; how do I get back to safe mode to backup my data before sending it away?
I am really afraid of losing all my contacts and other data.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I'm curious how this story ends. I have almost the same problem with my Legend (bit over a year old, still under warranty), and am about to send it back for repair.
I end up in the Hboot screen when I start it, then no button seems to do anything.

Did yours get repaired fully? Any idea on the reason of the malfunction?
