Angry My APAD just arrived... HELP!

To get this out of the way: It's a 7" APAD with webcam and a red light when charging. It came with Android 1.7.

A few things I need to sort but am ripping my hair out trying to do myself:

    1. Connect to the PC. My iPod cable fit perfectly in the bottom then into my PC via USB but then my PC (Vista) says that it cannot recognize the device. Do I need to download drivers or do anything in particular? Links to drivers much appreciated.

    2. Upgrade from 1.7 to 2.1/2.2 is something I really want to do, looking about some say it's hard/impossible but others say there is a way. Even if it's a longshot, anyway to upgrade would be great as I want to install flashplayer which is apparently only for Android 2.2.

    3. Install flashplayer... but this needs android 2.2 I think.

    4. Downloading apps from the android market is not working. They all get stalled right at the start without downloading anything at all... why?

Thanks guys and sorry it's a lot of stuff but I thought I could just get it out of the box and it would do all of this already but apparently not... which sucks.

    ~Joe

EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong place... there's so much I need help with I wasn't quite sure where to post this.

I dont have the APAD, but have read a lot about them, this may or may not be of help

    1. Connect to the PC. My iPod cable fit perfectly in the bottom then into my PC via USB but then my PC (Vista) says that it cannot recognize the device. Do I need to download drivers or do anything in particular? Links to drivers much appreciated.

Not sure why you would use your IPOD cable, didnt the APAD come with a cable? I KNOW for sure that there ARE driver issues with WIN7, unfortnately I dont believe enough folks are still using VISTA forit to have been a wide spread problem. My suggestion (and this is what I had to do) Access a PC with WINXP (my netbook has an XP partition) and try THAT, it should ecognize it. However if you do a dogpile search for your APAD's processor (from the price I imagine its the VIA) and VISTA Driver you should see if someone has developed any drivers

    2. Upgrade from 1.7 to 2.1/2.2 is something I really want to do, looking about some say it's hard/impossible but others say there is a way. Even if it's a longshot, anyway to upgrade would be great as I want to install flashplayer which is apparently only for Android 2.2.

From what I have read, thats not going to be happening. Essentially what you are looking formis someone to RECOMPILE an android kernal of 2.2 for your cpu, from what I have read all development has ceased for that, so unless the manufacturer or one of the MAJOR hacking groups has an interet it probably wont happen. HOWEVER never to say never go to XDA-DEVELOPERS and see if anyone over there is working on it. They have done AMAZING things for the Augen

    3. Install flashplayer... but this needs android 2.2 I think.

    See above

    4. Downloading apps from the android market is not working. They all get stalled right at the start without downloading anything at all... why?

If youre getting connected and logged INTO the market place you are dping good so far. MOST folks cant even do that. However, some machines have found that the Directory on their device that is used as a temp directory (often called /cache) is too small or full. I'm not going to tell you to kill everything in it, because I know that CAN take some of your applications with it, but thats what I did on mine.

Search the rest of the Android forums, there is one out there just for the apad's I think its APAD.TV and you will find that there are LOTS of folks with those and that some have done some GREAT work.

I saw a video on youtube of a guy who added an extra large batter, USB ports and a camera to his.

I have not been able to get Android 1.6 to communicate with Windows 7 either, but then I cannot even get my Apad to download it's own programs, a real problem with this tablet it seems. I tried some advise of downloading Android 1.9 onto the apad to solve the download issue, but it just went onto my memory card where it still sits, no matter what I try. I have to guess I did something wrong on the download, but it's not like this tablet gives many choices. I all but prayed for it to work....not going there.

I hear you can now download Android onto a PC running Windows. Not sure that will solve anything, but I might try it.

Anybody know if Android will communicate with Linux? I just installed that too, one more thing I need to figure out.

    NYCLiz,

There is a GREAT deal of reading for you to do. From what I have read the APAD can be a GREAT device, but it takes soke background knowledge (I know no one has the time experience etc), you can really make a great device and have a lot of fun.

Heres what I can tell you in a nutshell:

    1) MOST of the android tablets are having a difficulty working with WIN7. There is a LOT of work being done to make it happen easier, but right out of the box, no can do. That being said if you have a WINXP pc that should work just fine. I have also read some folks having good luck using WINXP and www.virtualbox.org to create a 'virtual' XP pc and talking with that.

    2) as for Android 1.9, unfortunately its a LOT more complicated than just downloading, but again that will come with reading and research. I dont know for sure what version have been compiled for your device.

here are some sites to look at.

Obviously THIS is a good start, but THEN I would also look at:

    http://androidforums.com/tablets-mids/

this one is JUST for you

    http://www.apad.tv/apadforum/forum.php

    http://www.jiongtang.com/fourm

    http://www.slatedroid.com

THIS is a VERY techy site, but they will probably have the most current answers to any questions:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com

    http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/

    last but not least:

    http://www.androidtablets.net/forum
    \
its a lot of reading, but there are a LOT of great folks who can help you

Which version of Linux did you install?

I run linux as my main PC and have no problems with Mandriva

but I would suggest you check some of your distros forums as well.

    Ciao, boys!
It will be of great help, if you specify which model of tablet you have.
Please, don't stick on what is written on the envelope: many (too many!) chinese sellers dont know themselves what they are shipping.

Some solution to recognize your tablet are:
    - recognize from photos on internet: check how many connectors, and where they are
    - check amount of Ram, type of processor, etc.

Thanks MindWave....I have checked some forums, now checking the ones you included as well. If I could only get it to download apps from the market, I would not care about the rest so much. I got it to communicate with Windows 7, not like my Windows Mobile phone does, but still better than nothing....... the real issue is the market application problem.

I know that someone with more experience might find these issues easier, but I have not....and I did not expect to have to take courses to be able to handle basic functions. I am sure it's great if it works right, but I'd be rich if I were Madonna too, and you see where that gets me. I'll keep working on it.....the tablet that is. lol

I just installed the newest version of Linux but have not really messed with it yet. Next on my list.
