Hello there!
I am a newbie in everything Android. My N1(Gingerbread 2.3.4,received OTA) doesn't see any adhocs in the default system settings wifi menu from the very first day but when I use third-party app, those see my adhoc aps but can't connect to any, always ends up "couldn't connect to network" or tries hundreds of attempts and fail. Finally when I downloaded the "WiFi Manager" app it also see the adhoc aps but every time I select any it says "Android doesn't support adhoc...". I think that my N1 wifi chip isn't faulty as it works great as portable wifi hotspot and as the third-party apps see all the adhoc aps,so I think its related to android rather than N1. I am trying to convince myself that its usual for androids to ignore adhoc aps,but what really worries me is that when I turn on the wifi there is no nice wifi icon in the notification/status area but for bluetooth there is a nice bluetooth icon when turned on,I think unless am connected to real router that icon won't appear. But then again I might be wrong.I'll try finding a real router t'morrow and see what happens.
I use my unlimited data contract phone(Omnia) as adhoc to allow other devices like my iPad to use data services and my PC use wired internet,so I don't have any wifi router.I also tried with a nokia e52 as adhoc but N1 sees it(using third-party apps) but can't connect to it,and Wifi manager app says "Android doesn't support adhoc..."
Thank you for your time,I'll really appreciate all suggestions/advices.
Okay problem solved. When I went to campus t'day,I turned on the wifi and before I took my thumb off from the screen 7 access points got enlisted already, connects to all. What amazed me really is that how fast it connects, takes less than 1 second, thats way too fast compared to my other smartphones. Now what I am confused is about the GPS,it seems that it takes forever didn't get any fix,I think its because it was raining then, will try later.
Really amazed,I am a believer now, truly a mighty phone ever!!
