Also can I use the phone that is on my line 2 of my family plan since I never called to activate it and just popped in my sim card or do I need to buy a cheap phone to use to register?
Ok I just called and was able to remove my data plan and registered the imei of my gf's phone to my account. They then let me remove my iphone data plan and everything associated with it and now my account is registered to a basic phone.
What all will i need to get my nexus one working now and to make sure it never accesses the edge network or the 3g network?
Also, it gives me access to add the $10 Family data unlimited plan. Can I use this to access the edge network? I don't use edge much since I usually have wifi connection everywhere I go but it might be nice in case I wanted to use the navigation part of the phone.
if you have a dumb phone you want to use, you can likely get them to lower the internet plan. i've been reading on various forums, however, where Nexus One users have received txt messages from at&t stating that the users' will be moved to the $30 data plan. it appears at&t's system now includes the IMEI numbers for some/all Nexus Ones. who knows, maybe this is an indication that at&t will be getting some version of the Nexus One (a.k.a, Bravo) soon. i'm on at&t with the $10/Family Data Plan and have yet to be changed to a $30 plan because i'm testing out T-Mobile to decide if i want to switch carriers. i'm using an Even More Plus plan (a.k.a, Flex pay) which is basically a pay-up-front month to month plan. they have several plans to choose from, the least expensive being $40+tax (voice only) and the most expensive $80+tax (unlimited everything) . i simply walked into a T-Mobile store, told them i wanted to test their service, chose the unlimited calls, text and web plan and paid $92 dollars out-the-door. since then, i've used 2000 minutes, 500 text messages and i'm sure a ton of data. check out T-Mobile website for more details.

My Toys: Telstra HD2 & Nexus One
Yah I heard they possibly have gotten some of the imei's in the system. Not sure how that will work since I know some people are still able to use their nexus ones in this manner.
Ok now I am seeing on multiple forums that a lot of the nexus one's are being detected by AT&T and forced to upgrade to the data plan. Is there anyone that has not received this message and been forced that is using the nexus one on AT&T?
Also, I know the iphone and nexus one both have free texting option available. What is the best one to use to avoid a texting plan?
I was planning on saving money with AT&T dumbphone little ploy, but it didn't work. Called AT&T to cancel my iPhone data plan and they said, 'looks like you're using an HTC Nexus One' I was like, crap. So they just took the iPhone off and added the smartphone plan for $30...Meaning I don't get to save anything. Yet another reason why I hate AT&T, so I'll probably spend the money (it's $80 now) to get out of my plan with AT&T and go to T-Mobile.
You should have had a dumb phone registered in the system and then removed the data plan. Might not work in the long run anyways.
Dang..$80 a month for 3G with T-Mobile and $30 a month with AT&T edge..What's more worth it?
