And why is that?
You people who have problems comprehending the need for gapless shouldn't be posting here. This isn't a thread putting down Android or Droid. It isn't an "iPhone is better" thread.
Cell Phones are simply not just phones anymore. They are taking the place of items that once all served as a single function into one handheld tool, mp3 players being one of them. Mp3 is becoming the standard. Why should Android's media player settle for substandard? Would we all accept a record player that skips between songs, a tape player that drops out between songs, a CD player that pauses between tracks?
How many of you are kids not even above age 25 who have a music vocabulary limited to Single download mp3s of the latest crud manufactured for quick consumption by one hit wonders? Again, if that's you you shouldn't be posting here. Finally, again while you may have trouble comprehending the need... The people that actual develop Android's media player do find there is a need.
not to revive a "thread that wouldn't die" but I just tried listening to an album, instead of shuffling, and it is really annoying that the native player doesn't have gapless playback. I had "reconnected" with my albums, on my iPod, by setting the shuffle option to "by album." I would really appreciate a feature like that as well...
And when I do a straight-up shuffle, I'd love to have a feature like "sound check" on iTunes/iPod... a normalization of volume levels.

Wow, I just read about the fact that it supports gapless playback of Ogg files. I remember hearing about Ogg in 2001 and thinking "high quality AND no patents/licensing issues? I'm gonna convert all my files to Ogg!" ... that idea lasted for about a month. I'm actually tempted to do it again, though.
From what I can tell it looks like the recent OpenCore 2.0.6 version has indeed added Gapless playback as a new feature.

Hopefully we get this in the pending Android 2.0.1 upgrade and do not have to wait for 2.1.
I'm with BleedingPurist on this issue - Gapless playback is a must for my musical enjoyment.
I've got 2.0.1 on my Droid and I just tested it, still has gaps![]()
Same here. As before, the gap is less noticeable on the Vorbis files, so we are going to ditch our MP3's and convert all our FLAC files to Vorbis. I hope the next Android update fixes this issue. I'm simply appalled that project managers, and hardware/software developers consider these gaps acceptable. Seems that most DAP's are a step backwards in this sense - too bad.
This is a complete bloody deal breaker. I was all set to get a Galaxy S or Droid 2 since I was very satisfied with my experience with the Nexus One as a development phone, until I saw this thread. EVERY multimedia device I've owned has gapless playback support from my cheap ass dot matrix MP3 player to my iPod and the PSP. Sony broke the gapless playback in 3.72 firmware and I sent them an e-mail about it and they fixed it in 3.73. That's how important it is on a multimedia device!!
I just went ahead and got an iPhone 4 because it doesn't look anyone gives a crap and if I buy current Android phone I can't load a custom ROM because of the bootrom signature BS. Android has been corrupted and locked down and I can't install my own build even if I fixed the gapless playback myself. Locked down iPhone is better than locked down Android. Good riddance.
This is an old topic now...
If you want gapless included in Android, star the enhancement request: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3461
Either that or wait till a dev decides to build an app which goes around the built-in sound system. I've considered doing it, but I don't have enough time.
