If your Outlook client is acting as an Exchange client, then Touchdown from Nitrodesk is currently your best choice - it will access your contacts, email, calendar, and tasks. There's a free, fully functional time-limited demo in the Market. Support from the developer is excellent if you have any issues setting it up.

If your Outlook client is acting as a POP or IMAP client, then Touchdown is not for you.

The cliq syncs fine with the preloaded "Corporate Sync"
I haven't tested it long enough to see if it is push synced, and my office is a 3g/2g dead zone, but otherwise it works as well or better than iphone's sync to exchange.

Corporate Sync on the Cliq does not use push. You set it at whatever interval you want. I have mine set to 15 minutes, and it works great. I'm thrilled they included it in Motoblur.

I used Touchdown on the G1 and it's fantastic. Free if you don't want to send messages, otherwise it's $25 or something close. It does use push technology.

I bought my Cliq last night and I cannot find this setting. Where do I set it?

Go to your apps menu, then click "Accounts." Click "Add Account," then choose "Corporate Sync."

To answer the orginal poster's question:

If you Outlook is pointed at an exchange server, yes. If it is a stand alone version accessing a POP/IMAP account, no.

You should be able to point the Droid at the same POP/IMAP server and send and receive emails, but you will not have access to the contacts and whatnot on your PC copy of Outlook.

If you Outlook is connected to an Exchange server, you can further enhance the functionality by purchasing an additional piece of software like TouchDown (my preference) or Moxier Mail wihich can both do push ActiveSync with Exchange.

The Outlook connectivity is pull only by default. It basically queries an OWA server at a specified interval.

There several apps that will allow to sync Outlook(Stand Alone) with any Android system. I don't know how good they are but are expensive, around $40.00 for the desktop versions. They sync mail, contacts, calender, tasks, and maybe notes I think.

It''s extremly stupid that verizon and google didn't add some native support for Outlook, even I-Tunes has built in support for OutLook mail, contacts and calender.

Yeah, that's really been the only drawback to the Motoblur software on the Cliq in terms of Exchange sync with contacts when compared to Touchdown (besides Push, of course). I finally just took the top 10 people I email through Outlook and saved them as Google contacts to fix that problem.

Considering I purchased a Touchdown license for the G1, I probably should just go ahead and download it for the Cliq. I hate having a whole other program installed and running in the background just for the purpose of being able to view Exchange contacts, though.

I tried TouchDown by NitroDesk on my Cliq and, quite frankly, did not like it. It would not work with my company's Exchange Settings. I tried Corporate Sync and it was too basic for my needs. Therefore, I found DataViz RoadSync which is much easier to set up and configure as well as has a better interface (almost equivalent to Outlook).
