Should i switch to Verizon just for the droid ?

I got the g1 on day 1 . So i had to sign a 2 year contract with tmo . Tmo is the absolute worst . I always get poor signal and i dont think we have 3g in maryland yet . And some days my texts dont send and i cant call anyone till i restart my phone . I think that might have to do with the phone tho . I been wanting to switch to another phone company ( between at&t and verizon ) . I played with the droid and its amazing . I love the big screen and it just looks sexy ( well i kinda wish it had a track ball . But would it be worth it to spend money to switch to something else ? Should i wait for a droid phone for at&t or is verizon good ? Thanks

I switched to VZW. I have had a great experience with TMo and I did in the past, but this phone made me switch. I had problems with Vzw in the past so i am hoping those are history but time will tell. Either way, Vzw does have a good network regardless of their questionable billing methods and the feeling that you are simply a number.

Although i didn't have a contract to break, i did. Infact, i switched partly to get the droid, and partly to get the hell away from tmobile.

Unlike you, i was not unhappy with my service or phone. I loved my phone, and the service itself was.. usable. My issue was with the complete lacking of 3G anywhere i went. Since switching to Verizon, i've had 3G everywhere i go, and in places TMobile didnt even cover. I hate to say i was impressed with a big evil corporation (hehe), but i was.

And, as far as the droid goes, i am in love. It's everything i wanted from my G1. The Keyboard is small, too small imo, but aside from that, its my G1 on steroids.

Normally, you shouldnt switch a carrier that you are happy with for a phone, but since you are unhappy it might not be a bad idea.

Only you can decide if its worth the money though, but verizon is definitely a good company for signal haha.

The droid so far has been everything I was hoping for in my G1. TMo has good coverage in the Phoenix area so seldom was I without 3g. But one place I got the worst coverage? My house, yep, Vzw is oing better in my place in addition to the droid being sickkk.

Ill switch to any carrier for a phone though at this point. I may go back to TMobile after I check out the n900

Absolutely. I loved the G1 for what it was. But T-mobile's network was garbage. I've been enjoying my droid on 3g everywhere. (un-related to verizon - the battery is 10x better then the G1 on the droid)

Verizon's network is far superior and im paying the say amount that I was with Tmo. I managed to get out of my contract simply by proving a change of address. Good luck.

pgm, can you tell me more about this address change? Did you really move or just tell them?

Also, I have found the battery to be on par with the G1 or a little better but not notably better. But, thats supporting a bigger screen and faster processor. I imagine there are still some refinements that will help with battery. I should note that I haven't been using any power saving apps either like I did with the G1.

I signed up with tmo while in college. After graduation I had my bank statements sent to my parents house where I received little service, although it was still in their coverage area. I asked tmobile if I could get out of the contract and the rep said if I took proof of address to a store they wouldn't charge me with early termination. I did so, and they let me go without even attempting to get me to stay. From what I've heard from other people, I got lucky.

I guess my g1 battery was just lacking. I've been using the droid for 3g browsing, gps, navigation, pandora, and texting all day. That kind of action on my g1 wouldn't of lasted 4 hours

I switched to Verizon for the droid (and because I am living in an area with no good AT&T coverage). So far I am loving the droid
