Thread: Preserving battery life

    Default Preserving battery life

What can I do to help with the poor battery life of the Droid because it goes down faster thna my iphone did and I thought that was fast. It stays in my pocket most of the day and within 2 hours the battery has lost 20% from a full charge. I end all programs that I don't use, turn off sync, turn off gps, dim the screen all the way down but does not seem to help. I am getting to the point to where I am going to have to either buy a second battery or always bring my charger with me where ever I go

There is an app on the market called "toggle data widget" that you can use to quickly turn on and off your phones data connection. It even allows you to keep the mms turned on while the rest of the data is off if you want. Turning off the data connection will save battery big time.

Sounds more like you have a problem if you don't have multiple apps running and dim the screen.

Under - settings - about phone - there is a built in app that shows what is using the battery. I just plugged my wifes phone in a few minutes ago and it was off charger for 1 day ten hours and had maybe 20-30 percent left. not great but certainly much better then what you are talking about.

I turned off auto sync for facebook... worked like a CHARM.

I also found that turning off the 'auto location' feature on my droid made a big difference. I also don't keep the GPS on unless I am using it.

Turning off Facebook sync has nearly doubled my battery life. I just manually refresh when I open it.

I'll post here what I posted in another thread. But yes, another way to preserve battery life is to limit the data connections.

If anything, the battery would be at its peak after 2 weeks of proper use. The battery needs to "learn" how to hold a charge and to discharge properly. For the best results, only plug in the phone when you're at red, sometimes at yellow. But keep it charging until it's fully charged. If you must remove the charger, so be it (things happen), but try and keep it constant instead of broken up. And don't charge in the car too much because the voltage flucuates so much that it can "confuse" the battery. Just tips we use at Verizon.

I found short battery life after the first few days. i deleted a few apps i was suspect of. logged out of 'talk' and but a battery logger on. with a few calls. email. tried a few apps after 24hrs i was using on average 10% every 8 hours. I still had sync on for contacts and gmail. i didn't use the other email app. Bluetooth gps and wifi was off.
I think the display and apps running in the back ground is what kills the battery.
    good luck

well i think i might have found the problem cause it really only happens at work and at my work we have a lot of dead spots so i put the phone in airplane mode and it does not drain like i explained before but thanks for all the tips
