Motorola Droid Address Book Capabilities

I am thinking about getting the Droid from Verizon but wonder if I will be able to transfer my address book from my Blackberry 8830?

I need to be able to bring in things like company names, addresses, etc.

Appreciate the help.

Someone else may be better equipped to answer. but I'm guessing that if you can export your contacts into a CSV file into that Google recognizes, and upload it online to your g-mail account , then yes.

Just download Google Sync from http://mobile.google.com (from your phone browser). It can sync your calendar and contacts to your gmail/google calendar account. When you register your gmail account on the android, it will automatically sync your calendar and contacts into the new phone.

That is what I was going to recommend as well. I just came from a BB Storm II to the Droid. This worked perfectly.

That is what I did and it saved several hours of retyping into my address book. Appreciate the suggestions.

It certainly can. The easiest way would be to sync your Blackberry with Google, then when you set up the Droid it will pull your Google contacts in automatically.

Completely agree with the above regarding Google Sync. That is the *only* (smart) way to do it

The deal is that droid syncs with your Gmail and Google Calendar apps. The challenge is getting it to sync with Microsoft Outlook Contacts and Calendar. For the Calendar Google Calendar syncs with a free program "Google Calendar Sync" that you install on your PC. So every two hours it syncs your Google Calendar with your Outlook Calendar and then your droid syncs with Google Calendar. Great. The program is free. Just follow the instruction on the "Sync" tab on your Google Calendar.

Outlook Contacts sync is not available for free. You can copy all of your Outlook Contact info into Gmail Contacts via Export to a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file and then import into GMail Contacts. And that is easy and works great. But that is not a synchronization. If you make a change on your droid or Outlook you need to note your change and manually make the change on the other program. There are two apps that will perform the sync function. They both sync Outlook Calendar and Contracts with Google Calendar and Gmail Contacts. CompanionLink (http://www.companionlink.com) is $39.95 one time fee and KiGoo (http://www.getkigoo.com/index2.html) is $9.95 per year.

I don't know why Google offers the Calendar Sync program for free and not the Contacts, but that is what appears to be the case. And that is one of the key features of Blackberries and Windows Mobile Operating Systems is the ease with which they sync with Outlook.
