Alright, so I've read from various locations that when released, the CLIQ will be running Android 1.5. Has anyone heard if Tmo is planning on doing an immediate upgrade to 1.6 like the rest of their Android phones or will the new guy be a really late bloomer?
I was thinking that because it wasn't a vanilla Android install, there may be issues. Hopefully MotoBlur isn't going to be too much of a limiter on properly maintaining the OS.
So HTC provided TMobile with updates for the current line of android phones to go from 1.5 to 1.6, and TMobile only pushed out the update?
bye
Be mindful that the Android OS was meant to run as the backbone of devices not the full fledged HQ.
e.x The Hero. 1.5 Sense UI. WONDERFUL phone. Doesn't really need 1.6 since it's more so showing off its sense UI over the whole lame and boring "With Google" experience.
Motorola's site indicates that they "Have no plans to update to 1.6 at this time," which I find to be disappointing.
Some searches on the subject turn up reasons like, "agreements between T-Mobile and Motorola" or "Motorola needs to get blur working with 1.6, first."
Personally, I think they're going to wait at least 30-60 days for the hype and sales to slow a little before updating. Just being conservative, if some untested event causes the cliq / dex to crash & burn and cost them sales. This like the previous two are speculation. Only Motorola knows when and if they will update to 1.6.
I stopped thinking of them as, "Motorola: Yesterday's technology today" when they introduced this phone. I hope they don't go back to being too cautious and conservative again.
