Nope, you can't use the Vibrant on AT&T 3G.
This might seem like a dumb question. But looking at the comparison between the captivate and the vibrant. The vibrant you get so much more in the box and on the phone installed. Also it's a higher quality build all around. It also lets you install 3rd party apps unlike the captivate. I tried to do some researching on the network bands to see what bands it supports with mixed specifications or maybe i just don't know what I'm looking for. I would want to use this for AT&T because I'm on a family plan for a very long time. Please help android forum in clearing this up.
Ok,This is the Deal The Vibrant is a Quad Band device for call AT&T & T-Mo compatible, but here is the problem with Vibrant You never get 3G with AT&T because not the same 3G bands means just EDGE not good.My recommendation is wait,I think like in ago.more or less Samsung Galaxy S(original version)land in the US retailers buy a SIM Unlock one compatible with AT&T 3G bands and is perfect no bloatware from any carrier,no restrictions by any carrier and the original Device from Samsung with out any modifications for any carrier and a possibly qwerty keyboard version also.![]()
Over at xda someone managed to unlock the phone for use on ATT's network and they got 3g because of the 1900 Mz band. I think the reasoning for that is ATT does not require both bands. But then if you are in an area that is only 850 mz then you will be criusing in Edge.
i unlocked my vibrant and put it on at&t and it shows 3g and appears to be working at 3g speeds, i'd been googling around to see what the deal was and saw this post. works great with my microcell too.
It's confirmed working on xda, but only partially. It will not have 3g where there is only 850 bend.
Send from my Samsung Vibrant
Just put in my iPhone sim card after I unlocked it and I can confirm that AT&T 3g works on the Vibrant, which is awesome
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Android Community App
Can anyone else confirm that the Vibrant will work on ATT 3G service? I've been told it will and will not because it does not have WCDMA 850
