    Default captivate text message area code issue


    I am experiencing a problem when text messaging.

    The messaging app takes away the area code after the initial message.
    I have tried deleting the contact and the thread multiple times.
    Anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Sorry, I am looking for the same answer - at least 2 of us have it. I accidently put a 9 in where I needed a 0.

    So every text I get from my wife comes in with the wrong number, meaning I cannot text directly back.

    I deleted and reentered 2 separate times her proper number in my contacts - and guess what - it does NOT work.

    Hope we get an answer on that soon!

    I'm having the same problem with my brand new captivate. I will send a text message out to a friend, when that friend sends it back, the area code is deleted. (I had originally had that friend in my phone with no area code)

    AT&T suggested i reset the phone to factory settings. I told them thats BS. considering it was nearly impossible for me to get my original contacts from my blackberry to my android captivate in the fist place.

    They told me it was a known problem, that it will revert the number once it's sent back to the original number you had placed in for the contact. So their idea was to reset to factory settings and make sure all my phone numbers had the area code before i put them in. to me thats all BS.

    This is completely annoying, hope there is a fix soon.

    Is this just in the messaging app or does it happen if you use handcent sms too?

    everyone with this issue delete all contacts that is giving u problems. add the numbers by long pressing the call log and everything should b fine

    Thats a huge problem for those of us who have over 500 contacts. With blackberry, you dont need to place an area code for those who were in the same one as you. I have hundreds of contacts, from my area code, which dont have the area code in the contact listing.

    Thats going to be an extreme headache to edit, LOL.

    Thats a huge problem for those of us who have over 500 contacts. With blackberry, you dont need to place an area code for those who were in the same one as you. I have hundreds of contacts, from my area code, which dont have the area code in the contact listing.



    Thats going to be an extreme headache to edit, LOL.

    It sure is but this isn't an android problem its isolated to the captivate.

    I have one contact that had a wrong area code. I have deleted it and re-entered it, the entire contact, just the number, changed the name, and re-entered by hand - etc.

    And I can send them a text, but when they reply, it has the same area typo in it.

    Maybe what I am doing is not correct so again, what is long pressing (or what does it mean)?

    Thanks this is presently the only issue I have with this device, it beats the stuffing out of the iphone.

    EDIT: Googled it, did it, and have asked my wife to send a text/reply to my text to see if it's fixed.

    What google result did you find that turned the trick? I've found many solutions and none of them worked for me.

    I had a similar issue on my captivate (missing area code) and had to reset to factory to resolve the issue. A guy at the AT&T store said this is a known issue with samsung software, but I don't know if he was looking at the internet or some at&t-based ticket system or something.

    No I meant I googled what long pressing means. Not finding a fix. If I return to factory specs how does that affect what I have downloaded and things like that?

    I did do what the other person suggested, and had my wife text me - it failed. Still came in as 793 not 703. WHAT A FREAKING PAIN IN THE BEHIND.
