will the trackball light up like the sidekicks trackball?

A thread has actually already been made for this topic, unfortunately the track ball will not light up.

according to the manual as i read it, it doesn't say anything of notifications on the trackball.
The stand by notifications is actually in the speaker of the handset like other HTC products

ACTUALLY

i was downloading a load of stuff to my magic the other day and it autolocked, i suddenly noticed the trackball flashing white, i think it was allerting me of comleted downloads, but i havnt seen it again so far and have not seen the ball light up again, even with general use, its a shame as i would like it to light up for general use like the other buttons do
