...I'm using a G1 but with a non T-Mobile sim? Currently on Vodafone.

I don't think anyone knows the answer to this definitively yet. The last OTAs came before there were unlocked G1s. Let us know!

OTA comes in from Google through the net either through gprs/edge/3g or through WIFI. So yes it will work.
