From what i know the G1 has hardware acceleration so for the most part if the app that plays the video is written effieceintly then it should be pretty smooth.
Ok forget the software issue, we know that there are apps to play mp4 video already developed, we know it plays youTube to no end..
But will the G1 have the hardware to smoothly play movies converted to the right format at its full resolution?
My biggest gripe with my winMo phones was that they could not hang in this way, frame rate was just ridiculously low..
So can anybody tell me for sure so I can either buy a psp or start converting vidz and filling up my microSD cardz please!?

Yes, Mast3rPyr0 is right on the money.
The G1 can easily play quake (the vid I saw was quite stunning), so it's safe to assume that with the on-board graphics/video accelerator and the proper application you should be able to run video at regular FPS. I think video runs at 60fps, correct me if I'm wrong. So it should be able to handle it just fine, if not initially then when a patch, update, or 3rd party app comes out.

thanks for the program and i thought they have the video player already made for 3rd party
Yes it will play a HQ video. A good program that allows you to convert the video would be a program that I used for my psp. Program is called PSP 9, I am sure there are newer versions of it. From what I remember this program had a wide variety of settings. For the best quality, make sure you apply the right settings before converting!
