When anyone sends me a MMS (picture message) I only get a link to the picture.

Is this normal with the G1? It doesn't matter what carrier they have, several different people on different carriers have all tried, and every time I get a pic link.

Would the fact that I don't have 3G make any difference? Is there any specific settings to check or another app I should have?

It's not super-big-oh-my-gosh problem, I would just really like to know if this is normal or is something wrong. I want to squeeze every bit of coolness out of my G!

Agreed, send one to yourself first. Then try it. If its not working, call tmobile technical support and its something you have to fix on their end.

I haven't had that problem. The closest to it was when I tried sending an mms and then my phone rebooted.
Try the sending to yourself thing.. otherwise download something like handcent sms [which is what I use] then try again
