Default What you DONT like about G1

Well I love to say this but Im already rockin my G1, I was privliaged to go to one of many launch parties for the G1 in which they gave away a G1 to EVERY attendee (awesome) Thank you HTC!!

Anyway, Question is for G1 OWNERS ONLY, please dont post if you dont own this phone as you really have only read what is online and heard rumors from friends. As far as the owners please provide your honest opinion on what you DONT like, and hope for a firmware update SOON!

Im not trying to bag on the G1, because I love this thing, but heres what I dont like...

Camera, its a bit slow, and the autofocus is lacking, and there are hardly ANY settings AT all, if not ANY, like NONE!

No Video, CA MON!! Although I spoke with an Engineer and he said that reasoning behind no video was due to the fact they did not want the Cell Cites being over loaded with people being able to take video, and upload immediatly to youtube, Which IMO would be AWESOME, but could VERY so drag down a cell site very fast.

NO Enterprise/Corporate Email I mean I would love to throw my crack berrry on my desk and use this thing, but I honestly have to carry both phones now, because T-Mobile (my company) has corporate email and only a blackberry or something with enterprise emailing capabilities allows me to access my calendar, email, and distrobution lists. =( Hoping for a developer soon!!!!!!

AGPS As of yet, there are no developers that have TURN BY TURN directions like TeleNav for the G1, and Google Maps does not support this feature, HTC has told me it never will, but others have told me it will be able to do this feature when a developer makes a program that can. So well see...

There are some other features in the Texting portion of the phone that get on my nerves, stuff about the ringtones get on my nerves, but honestly this is coming from someone that has had a blackberry FOREVER due to my Career jamming it down my throat everyday, Im so glad to see something new on my desk =)

What you DONT like about G1 :

That i don't have one in my hands yet.

    sorry couldn't resist.

bump for this thread though, i'd like to hear more things like this, and not the same old "no 3.5mm headphone jack / no on screen keyboard"

I think there are a total of 3 people, including you that actually have the G1 in hand at this time and are members of AC. Get ready for the questions to start pouring in!

    no PAM
seriously, I need internet access for my laptop when I am out of home, or on duty, where there's no other internet service other than T-Mobile, then PAM (tethering) is a key requirement

alot of the problems can be fixed by apps, but i'd say the same ol' it 'doesn't have a 3.5 jack' is my main problem. but again, fixable with an adapter.

True but HTC is coming out with an adapter to plug into the Mini USB port, then plug in the 3.5mm, My box came with a stereo headset that sounds fine for now.

Good point, I think they did this due to the whole idea of 3G or Wifi for internet access, BUT Tethering is a deff must have for most people. Thanks for the input

Camera, - I believe all of mentioned options can be updated and improved with the firmware update - so looking forward to it.

No Video, - As stated above - firmware update can resolve the issue or third party app.

NO Enterprise/Corporate Email - Hoping for a developer soon as well. However I do not require this option on my phone.

AGPS - TURN BY TURN directions like TeleNav - I would not like to see TeleNav having app for G1 since they do charge a fee for use of their software (currently using Nextel at work with GPs where TeleNav is optional with fee). I believe many developers are waiting to see how popular G1 will be. Knowing that there is the market for something, apps should be made in matter of weeks. Even if it costs one time fee from $2 to $10 - G1 users/owners will go for it.
When traveling I do carry laptop anyway (movies he he) I do have navigation add-on for laptop, so, G1 is not really required to have turn-by-turn navi BUT I would love to see it coming our way. Pretty positive it will happen regardless of what HTC says

The only thing I don't like is how it looks. HTC has designed some AMAZING looking phones lately (namely the Touch series), and I was somewhat disappointed at how the G1 turned out.

Fortunately, aesthetics aren't nearly as important to me as the functionality.

There are some software shortcomings, but I have every ounce of faith they will get resolved either by Google or the 3rd party developers.

Well I love TeleNav, and Honestly I didnt pay a DIME for it when I had sprint, TeleNav has better features and Nav capabilities than my NAV in my BMW lol. I downloaded it off a thirdparty website and uploaded it to my sprint phone and didnt pay a dime for it, all I had to have was a data pack. So Im sure this will happen once tons and tons of developers come pouring in. This phone is just gunna be a total hooker (sorry lack of a better word) for a phone, EVERYONE will be hacking it, customizing it and designing it how they want it to be. Which IMO I love! Sharing is caring lol
