H is 3G. It stands for HSDPA.
Ok, so I just unlocked my Rogerts HTC magic, and I entered the APN's I found on one the android sites, but I only see an "H" and sometimes an "E" am I supposed to see a 3g?

ok cool, thank you. I guess I am all set then![]()
Oh and I should mention that E = EDGE and G = GPRS.
I know what edge is, but whats the diff with GPRS and HSDPA
GPRS is a 2.5g wireless communications that's supposed to give you 56kbps - 114 kbps. EDGE is the next level up giving you roughly twice the bandwidth of GPRS.
On the other end of the curve is HSDPA, which is the next generation of 3G (3.5G or 3G+) giving you anywhere from about 1.8Mbps up to the recently announced HSDPA+ service in Philadelphia (T-Mobile) with 21 Mbps.
If you want to read more about them, the Wikipedia articles are pretty detailed:

there's a speedtest app in the store and you might be able to use one of the browser based tests (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=ban...UTF-8&fr=moz35)
