Do NOT attempt to root your phone using the GSM version of instructions that are out for the HTC Hero. You have a very high chance (if not 100%) of bricking your phone.

That process is strictly for GSM.

Please follow the developments over at the XDA-Developers forum for the Hero until someone creates a process for the CDMA hero.

Again, please DO NOT DO THIS until there is a viable documented solution for the CDMA Hero.

    You have been warned

no free way, ive been searching the web up and down in every possible forum for android.. trust me, i use tether alot and before i bought this fone i was told its possbile since this fone is open source.... but it turns out that its too new at the cdma market from sprint.

but i know eventually this fone will get the SH*T hacked out of.... i know with windows mobile i hacked it like crazy.

and kmartburrito, thanks, i will have to wait, hopefully someone comes out with something soon....i need tethering! thanks

Even PDAnet didn't work for me through WMWare (I'm a Mac person.) I also tried all those port forwarding apps (Proxoid, etc.) and nothing worked. I too am wanting this functionality! I would even pay Sprint $20/mo for it (aside: that is my plan "B", add my old Instinct back as a third phone line since that is able to PAM on my MacBook Pro.)
