you don't need the data plan for text or voice. a tmobile rep told you that? call them again and ask somebody diferent!
Hello all!
My phone broke a few days ago and i have been looking for a new phone. I really really really want the G1. The only problem is, im on a Family plan with an additional +$5, 400 texts.
I dont have the money for the data plan atm, and ive been looking around on a few forums and ive been getting mixed answers. Hoping you guys can straighten me out.
When i buy my G1, and i add the data plan, it cancels my +400 text addition. What im going to do is go home, activate my phone, and cancel the data plan. My question is, can i then add my +400 text messages back?
I called them up and the lady said if i cancel the data plan i cant even make calls or text on the phone (which is what i want it to do) but on the forums people have claimed to have canceled the data plan, switched to wifi and have been able to call. No one has said anything about texting though. And thats my biggest question.
Thank You for your time, i hope for many responses that can help me (and fast lol cuz im going to Tmobile tomorrow)
you don't need the data plan for text or voice. a tmobile rep told you that? call them again and ask somebody diferent!
So i can pretty much go down to T-Mobile, buy the phone, activate it, go home and cancel the data plan?
What about the data plan canceling my texting out? Will I be able to put the texting back on? Or will they see i have a G1 and get all but sore lol
I don't know about the texting that's why I'd call back and talk to someone who knows how the phone works at tmobile
Yeah i think i will call them when my gf's off our land line because im without a phone till i find out.
They said that their system said that it wont allow 2 plans at the same time so the better one (and buy better im assuming the one that makes them more money *cough* data plan*cough*) will be put on. They didnt say anything about texting.
But again, ill call them in like 20mins or so. Then ill post what they said, hopefully you can help me make sense of it
I guess you could be breaking the contract. by dropping the data plan.
where are all the peeps on tmobile without data plans?
Yeah, thats another thing im worried about. If I upgrade and i cancel the data plan, im not sure that be breaking the "contract" and i dont want to be fined or sued.
Ive been looking on Craigslist and Ebay but all the G1's their are bronze (i want white) and are like $600-900 because their unlocked
well you wouldn't be sued, I suspect the worse that can happen is they make you pay the difference between the plan price for a phone and full price.
Well i believe i would be paying the full $400 for the phone because my 2year contract isnt up. When i tried to upgrade my phone online, it said it was $399.99
But the guy at my T-mobile store said he could get me a good deal when i upgrade my phone. Hopefully he can give it to me at the $180 price. And he seemed pretty cool and i could talk to him about dropping the data plan and all without him taking it personally lol
well if you were to end up buying the phone for 400 dollars just get the developer version and put your sim in it. that way you'd never have to deal with the data plan. of course you'd have to order it and wait.
