HTCCODE seem to be the ones who are able to provide the unlock code.
Found the reference on xda, you can have a look here :

At Mobile Unlocked we can now unlock the HTC Desire for £16.50 and the code will arrive in 5 to 30 minutes.

Just so you know the price for this service has now been reduced to £14, and so far every HTC Desire on T-Mobile owner who ordered an unlock code from us has successfully unlocked.

Hi There, I have HTC Desire that was imported (grey import) and appears to have come Europe as the opening logo is T-Mobile.
I can use the phone in New Zealand (where I live) registered with Vodafone. Have used the phone in Singapore and Japan etc. However I cannot get into the Android marketplace - it asks for Google email (Gmail). I do have a gmail account but won't accept it.
Does this phone need unlocking or is it another problem?
Just to say I purchased my unlock code from my HTC Desire locked to T-Mobile from HTCCode. Cost me $15 more than advertised on their website, but the guy I was chatting to on their online chat was very good (and patient!) with me, and I had my unlock code within 5 minutes (including the time I kept pressing the wrong button!).
The client I downloaded didn't have my code in the DB, but the code the guy gave me on the live online chat worked first time.
Cheers guys!
This is not spam!!
I have signed up to this forum initially just to advise people against using gsmliberty to get an unlock code. I used them for a code for my HTC Desire locked to T-Mobile. States 5-10 minutes. A day passes, I hear nothing. I then raise a ticket asking where is my unlock code.
I receive a message quoting server problems cause delay? rubbish and if it was the case, a simple mail to let me know would have sufficed.
next they quote the server did not return a code for my HTC and went on to say:
I opted for for number 2, I requested a refund, I wait a day, no refund, I contact them again, they state they are searching for my code, to which I respond yet again, refund me. Another day passes, no refund. We can offer one of the following two options at this time :
1- Cancel your order for a full refund as per our service guarantees.
OR
2- A premium HTC database can be used to search for your phones unlock code and does come at an extra cost of $15.00.
However this database is a much more comprehensive one, carrying records of many more and recent IMEI's, further more the search will take 5-10 minutes only to complete after confirming your consent, and of course should no code be found your order will be fully refunded and thus making this is a risk free upgrade.
Please do let us know how you would like to proceed with your order and we'll have it processed right away.
Best Regards,
Jason
GSMliberty Support Team.
I have had to raise a dispute with Paypal with the hope of receiving my refund. In the meantime I used foneszone.co.uk I received a working code very fast and problem free. Beware who you use for codes, some are more hassle than they are worth.
I had unlocked HTC desire which is initially locked with t-mobile within few minutes & i must say customer support of this site is excellent .
Unlock HTC desire
After a bad experience of using GSM Liberty (took 24+ hours to tell me that I needed to pay them more money!) and getting my money back I simply rang the phone company who the phone was locked to and got a code over the phone - cost me just £15.70. I cannot recommend these websites, just use the phone operator!
Its better to choose sim free mobiles when buying androids so as to avoid problems like unlocking and sim free restrictions. HTC Phones are the smart choice as a sim free androids as I personally owned 1 recently and yes HTC Desire is also available completely unlocked Sim free.
